Our Call Center representatives have access to the exact same information we provide to you using our automated tools. Our automated processing system scans every return for errors and signs of fraud.

How do I locate the refund amount I requested?

We do not have any information about your return at this time. E-filed returns could take one week to post to our system; mailed returns can take up to three weeks to post to our system. If you e-filed, check your email, tax software or tax preparer to ensure it has been accepted.

A direct deposit of your refund is scheduled to be issued on mm/dd/yyyy.

How is my tax refund processed?
After entering your information, you will also have the option of being notified by text or email when the status of your tax return changes. You may only view the status of 2018 or later year returns. If you requested to receive your refund in the form of a check, you’ll receive this status message when we’ve scheduled your refund check to be mailed. When you submit your tax return, it will go through several steps of processing. If the line on your return where you request a refund amount is blank or you entered zero, you have not requested a unearned revenue refund and cannot use our Check Your Refund Status tool.

When you use Check Your Refund Status, you’ll enter information we use to verify your identity. Locate the refund amount you requested on your tax return using the chart below. This status may update to processing again, or you may receive a request for additional information. Select the type of refund status message you received for an explanation of your return and refund status. However this date only indicates the next processing date and does not mean the refund will be paid then.

Can a phone representative tell me the refund amount I requested?

If you receive this status, we need more information from you before we can finish processing your return and refund. You will receive a Request for Information letter tax refund definition (Form DTF-948 or DTF-948-O) with details about the information we need and how to respond to the letter. To check your refund status, you need the amount of the New York State refund you requested. See Requested refund amount to learn where to find this amount. There are 2 different event dates to keep in mind with the IRS PATH refund freeze.
